AOL was founded in 1985 as an online service company that provides its customers with digital contents, advertising tools (e.g., advertising.com, ADTECH, AOL on Network, 5min Media, Be On, Pictela, StudioNow and Sponsored Listings), mobile services (e.g., Moviefone, TechCrunch, MapQuest, and Huffington Magazine), and communication tools (e.g., AIM and AOL Mail). To take the advantage of some of these services you should be an AOL member. But, AOL Mail is available to anyone, free of charge.
Here is how to sign up for AOL Mail
Click on this link to go to the AOL Mail home page. At the left hand side of the main page, you will see a link to get a free username. Click on that link (Get a Free Username) to get to the sign up form including the below fields:
First Name: Type in your first name here.
Last Name: Type in your last name here.
Pick a username: When you click on this field, available usernames will show up. You can pick either one of them or completely different one.
Create a password: Enter a combination of at least 6 and at most 16 characters including numbers, letters, and punctuation marks. You can follow this link to generate a safe password.
Confirm password: Re-type your password.
Date of birth: Enter your date of birth.
Gender: Select a gender.
Zip code: Enter your zip code.
Set a security question: Chose a security question from the drop-down menu, and then type your answer to the question in the field underneath this field.
Mobile phone: Enter your mobile phone.
Alternate email: Type in an alternate email address (If you don’t have an email account, you can choose one service from the email category and follow instructions from there to create an email account.)
After you fill out the above fields, click on “Sign Up” button to create your account.
